1. Plumbing Permits

Plumbing permits will be issued to MN licensed plumbing contractors and homeowners completing their own plumbing work only. The applicant must be completing the work. 

Please review the plumbing permit types listed below and select the best fit for your project. For permits requiring plan review, include all required submittals to help avoid delays.

2. Residential New or Replacement Plumbing Equipment

Select this permit type for all replacement or new plumbing equipment or appliances. A permit is not required for replacement of basic fixtures (water closet, lavatory, sink)

• Water Heater, Water Softener, Sump Pump, Lawn Irrigation, Backflow Prevention (Identify make/model details in ePermit Portal description)
• Drain Tile - provide a detailed scope of work and upload into portal submittal item Additional Documents. Upload file name = Sub1 Building Plans or Sub1 Project Details
  • Appliance/Equipment manufacturers’ specifications shall be in site for inspections

3. Residential Minor Plumbing Alteration/Repairs

Select Minor Alteration/Repair permit type for minor alteration of plumbing systems including basement finishes where rough-in is pre-existing. Detailed scope of work shall be included in ePermit description.

Optional Submittals

• Plans or scope of work document uploaded into Additional Documents during the application process.
• Any specifications necessary to complete review shall be submitted. 
  • Appliance and/or equipment manufacturers’ specifications shall be on site for inspections.

4. Residential Existing Plumbing System Addition

Select this permit type for additions to a plumbing system where no rough-in previously exists and/or where major additions will occur.

Required Submittals

• Plumbing Plan – Required Submittal. Upload file named Sub1 = Plumbing Plans 
  • Detailed and dimensioned building plans with fixture/equipment layout and compliant details of installation. 

Optional Submittals

• Specifications - Optional Submittal. Upload file name = Sub1 Specs.  Any specifications necessary to complete plan review shall be submitted. 
• Appliance and/or equipment manufacturers’ specifications shall be on site for inspections.

 

5. Residential New Plumbing System

Prior to applying for plumbing permit verify if plumbing permit was included in building permit.  Typically all New Dwellings are issued all-inclusive permits.  

Select this permit type for projects where a new system is being installed i.e. detached structures

Required Submittals

• Plumbing Plans – Required Submittal. Upload file named Sub1 = Plumbing Plans 
  • Detailed and dimensioned building plans with fixture/equipment layout and compliant details of installation.

Optional Submittals

• Specifications - Any specifications necessary to complete plan review shall be submitted. 
• Appliance and/or equipment manufacturers’ specifications shall be on site for inspections.

 

6. Commercial Plumbing

Select this permit type for all Commercial Plumbing Permits. Plan review will begin after permit acceptance. Fees will be due after review approved.

Required Submittals

• Building Plans - Upload file name = Sub1 Plumbing Plans. DLI Approved plans and Isometrics or minor project plans
• Specifications - Upload file name = Sub1 Specs. Equipment and fixture detailed specifications, DLI Plan Review Approval Letter
• Energy Compliance forms - Upload file name = Sub1 Energy. Provide if not provided with Building Permit
