Marriage License 

A marriage license issued from Scott County is valid for 6 months from the date of issuance and can be used anywhere in the state of Minnesota.  After the ceremony, the signed marriage certificate must be returned to Scott County to be filed and recorded.

Application Process

Complete and submit your application Marriage License Application online anywhere at any time.    

After you have submitted your application both applicants must appear *in person (no appointment necessary) at the Scott County Government Center to sign the application, make payment and pick up your license.  You will need to bring valid government issued photo identification.

*You will receive a confirmation email that includes a link to a supplemental application form. Please ensure you print, complete, and have this form notarized before coming to our office as it will be required in lieu of the second applicant’s presence. 

Cost

  • Regular Fee: $115 
  • Reduced Fee: $40  if Educator's Statement is submitted at the time of application

Payment Options)

Payments are accepted in the form of cash, check, or credit/debit card.  If paying by credit card there will be a 2.45% convenience fee.

Additional Information

  • If you are submitting an Educator's Statement, the names of the parties on the Educator's Statement must be identical to the full legal names completed on the marriage license application.  If the certificate/statement does not meet the requirements, it will be rejected giving you the choice to get a new certificate/statement or pay the full price.
  • It is important your Officiant has their credentials recorded in Minnesota at least one day prior to the marriage.
