Construction Year: 2022 Community: City of Shakopee Corridors Served: CH 15, CH 16 Project Lead: Scott County Contractor: Valley Paving Construction Start Date: August 15th, 2022
This project includes the installation of a traffic control signal at the intersection of CH 15 and CH 16 as well as road widening to accommodate the construction of a raised median on CH 15 through the intersection with CH 16.
CH 15 and CH 16 will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the intersection for the duration of construction. Additionally, the intersection will operate as an all-way stop during construction.
Purpose & Justification:
Ongoing development in the area has resulted in an increase in vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the intersection. A portion of the pedestrian traffic is generated by residents living west of CH 15 walking to an elementary school and high school located east of the intersection.
Additionally, there is an overrepresentation of right-angle crashes since the extension of CH 16 west of CH 15 opened in 2018. A traffic study was performed, and a traffic control signal was determined the appropriate intersection control to improve safety and operations at the intersection.
