Requirements

The following terms apply to volunteer groups that agree to adopt a Scott County highway:

  • The volunteer group agrees to pick up litter on a segment of county highway selected in consultation with the Scott County Highway Engineer. The recommended length is two miles.
  • The volunteer group agrees to a 3-year commitment to clean up their segment of roadway at least twice a year, in the spring and fall. The Highway Department provides safety vests and trash bags. The maintenance crew picks up and disposes of filled bags and other items.
  • Scott County agrees to erect a highway sign at no cost to the group to recognize the group's clean-up efforts. The name on the sign shall be limited to two lines of eighteen characters (including spaces). The county reserves the right to approve and/or edit names or acronyms. No logos, website addresses or telephone numbers are allowed on the signs.
  • All new Adopt A Highway groups receive free 30 inches by 24 inches signs. Current groups will have this new sign configuration phased in over a 10-year period.
