Preliminary design and environmental review work has been conducted to determine the proposed design for a new interchange at County Highway (CH) 2 and Interstate (I-) 35. The proposed project is not currently programmed for final design or construction; however, Scott County plans to advance this project when funding becomes available.
A diverging diamond interchange (DDI) has been selected as the proposed design, see the Project Layout (PDF).
An Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) (PDF) has been prepared for the project. The EAW will be available for public comment starting on May 2, 2016 and the public comment period will close on June 1, 2016. Any comments on the EAW should be directed to Craig Jenson, Project Manager.
An open house meeting was held on May 10, 2016 to share the details of the preliminary design and environmental review process, see the Open House Invitation (PDF).
Purpose & Justification
As traffic volumes increase around the CH 2 and I-35 interchange, the bridge and ramps will need to be reconstructed to accommodate these future volumes. The purpose of the preliminary design and environmental review work was to identify potential project impacts and provide Scott County, Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), City of Elko New Market, and New Market Township an interchange footprint that can be planned around as future development opportunities are proposed in the area.
