Online Video Training

Foster Care Licensing requires each provider to complete a certain number of initial and on-going training hours. Provided are six video trainings that are approved and can be used to complete these training hours. Each video training is listed below and has a short description of what is included. In order to receive credit for this training opportunity, each provider must watch the video/videos provided, follow along with the given information packet (power point) and then complete the self-test. When the provider has completed each section, the completed self-test must be returned to your Scott County Licensor in order to receive credit for this training.

Children's Mental Health
This video training is presented by Deena McMahon. This video defines mental health and specifically addresses how it impacts children's development. This training had been approved and will meet the children's mental health requirement for Foster Care initial and on-going training.
Overview of Mental Health Issues
This training is a three part series by the Minnesota Department of Education and it provides a better understanding of children's mental health disorders and its impact on learning and functioning. Included in this series are three videos which highlight anxiety, depression and attention and behavior disorders. When all three sections of this training are complete, this also will meet the mental health requirement for Foster Care on-going training.
Keeping Families Together Video
This video is a guide for families to understand intensive treatment options for children with mental illnesses. On completion of this video training, training hours can given to fulfill the mental health requirement for on-going training.
Signs & Safety
This video highlights what the basic principles are and how you as a foster parent cant be involved in a new and innovative approach. Included is a panel discussion with case managers and some foster parents who have already started this type of work with families. To complete this training, both videos must be watched while you follow along with the information packet (power point) and then complete the self-test at the end. This training can be used for additional on-going training hours for current foster care parents.
